Mental Health Care for Your Child, by Video or In Person

Getting a child to open up about how they are feeling is hard enough. Getting them into a waiting room to do it can feel like one more thing standing in the way. At Pediatricz Now, most of our mental health visits happen by secure video, so your child can talk with a provider from a place where they already feel safe. When a visit needs to happen in person, you are welcome at any of our locations.

You choose what works for your family. Many parents find that a video visit fits the week far better than a drive across town after school or work.

See a Provider from Home

A video visit connects you and your child with a Pediatricz Now provider over a private, HIPAA-secure connection. No drive, no waiting room, no missed afternoon of school or work. For families managing anxiety, ADHD, mood changes, or behavioral concerns, that ease often makes the difference between keeping an appointment and putting it off.

Children also tend to speak more freely from their own room or kitchen table than from an exam chair. That comfort is not a small thing in mental health care. It often shapes how much a provider actually learns in a visit.

Families looking for more focused pediatric mental health support may also visit Texas Pediatric Mental Health, which provides care for children and teens with emotional, behavioral, and developmental concerns.

What We Handle by Video

A good portion of pediatric mental health care is conversation, observation, and follow-through. That work translates well to video. Over a telemedicine visit, our providers can:

Talk through what your child is experiencing and how it is affecting school, sleep, and home life

Provide counseling and ongoing support for anxiety, depression, mood changes, and behavioral health

Manage and adjust medication, then check in regularly on how it is working

Review progress between visits and adjust the plan as your child grows

Bring you in as a parent, so you leave each visit knowing what to watch for and what to do next

You can read more about the specific conditions we treat on our Mental Health services page.

When an In-Person Visit Is the Right Call

Telemedicine is a strong fit for most mental health care, but not all of it. Some first evaluations are better done face to face, and certain situations call for hands-on assessment, lab work, or coordination that a screen cannot replace. Our providers will tell you plainly when an in-office visit serves your child better, and every Pediatricz Now location is open to you.

Telemedicine is also not for emergencies. If your child is in crisis or at risk of harm, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.

How a Visit Works

Mental health video visits run on the same simple setup as the rest of our telehealth care. You connect through the healow app from your phone, tablet, or computer, check in a few minutes early, and your provider joins you in a private virtual room. Full setup steps and the app download are on our Telehealth page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does insurance cover a mental health telemedicine visit?

Most insurance plans cover telehealth visits the same way they cover in-office care, though coverage for mental health services can vary by plan. Call the number on your insurance card or ask our front desk before your visit so there are no surprises.

How old does my child need to be for a video visit?

We care for patients from birth up to 21. For younger children, a parent stays present and helps the provider read cues that the child may not put into words. Teens often do part of the visit on their own, with you brought back in for the plan.

Can my child see the same provider every time?

Yes, continuity matters in mental health care, and we work to keep your child with a provider who already knows their history rather than starting over each visit.

What if we start with video and the provider decides we need to come in?

That happens, and it is a normal part of good care. Your provider will explain why and help you book the in-person visit at whichever location is most convenient for you.

Do I need anything ready before the visit?

A quiet, private spot and a charged device are enough. If your child takes medication, having the bottles nearby helps the provider confirm doses quickly. A short list of what you have noticed at home, including changes in sleep, appetite, or mood, makes the time more useful.
